British paddler in town

Hey Guys (and maybe girls if there are any who paddle),

I am new from the UK, Cornwall to be exact. I will be here for three years at least and I've brought my board with me, I've been down to Schreveningen a few times now and had some decent enough waves- Last Thursday was nice! Anyway, I never see any bodyboarders only kiters and surfers.

So I assume I need to seek out the best local spots, if anyone can put up with speaking English until I manage to get some Dutch going then it would be cool to come for a paddle some time soon, or maybe go for a beer? I live near Koningsplien / the power station / the peace palace in the Hague.

Anyway, hope to hear from someone.... Final question, is it true there is a flow rider somewhere is Holland? Is it any good?

I am from domburg , (zeeland) , thats 200 km souther of you

but we have once in the 2 months a meeting to board together so you can join us next time if you want .. just check out "meeting14" on this forum

www.dutchwaterdreams.nl is a flowrider but its no a wave with a barrel Rolling Eyes

welcome here in Holland and of course at bodyboarder.nl!!

We will have a meeting (as said in the former reaction) at the weekend of 24/25 of March, there you can meet other bodyboarders. check the topic for more info, and just ask (in english) if you can' figure it out..

I live near Rotterdam in a village called Spijkenisse and my homespot is the Maasvlakte, where very often I am the only boarder in the water...

Hey Gareth,

Welcome in Holland. Where are you staying at the moment? I'm living in Scheveningen so we can meet up if you want, show you The Hague, the breaks etc.

If you go boarding it's pretty normal not to see any other bodyboarders. There are just a few that are really active, especially in the winter. But if you come to the meeting, just a short ride from Scheveningen, you will get to know them.

And yes, there's a flowrider in Holland. Check: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0hetpmBBRQ . It's in Zoetermeer, a small place near The Hague

and there are bboarders around the coast, but the reson you don't see them that much is we are rather scattered along the coast.

Welcome to our nice little country with nice little waves (England is in the way most of the time Smile

)
I live in Alkmaar, in the northern part of Holland, and where i surf most of the time i'm also the only prone rider in the water. Plenty of stand-ups and kitesurfers though.

Good stuff, thanks for the replies, it makes me feel very welcome! To answer a question, I live in the Hague near KoningsPlein (practically by the PowerStation- flashy stuff!)

I am actually away for the weekend of the meeting otherwise I'd defo come along. Cheers for the invite.

Other questions- 1) does anyone fancy a beer in the Hague sometime maybe later next week? 2) Does anyone fancy a trip to the flow rider? Is it open to the public? It looks like a laugh. 3) Does anyone follow http://magicseaweed.com/Scheveningen-Surf-Report/145/ there seems to be good surf heading our way! I am doing the Hague half marathon this weekend but may well be in the water, so let me know if you want to join me for a paddle.

there is some good swell coming, but its hard onshore wind, but i now a spot where a nice point breaks with that conditions, so i hope nothing change !

Had some smallish but fun waves on Friday. Hope everyone has been having a good time.... So here comes a concrete suggestion: this weekend I plan to go visit dutch water dreams.... does anyone fancy joining me? I am gonna try for the flow rider and may also have a kayak on the white water course if I get tempted....
